Introducing my new series "Tucson Tales", a project dedicated to combining my love of tucson with my love of comic books. Each “issue cover” highlights a different landmark of local lore that is lesser known or talked about. My goal for this project is to spread awareness of the parts of tucson that help make this city strange and special past just our desert landscape.

Issue #1 highlights the colony of 7,000+ bats that live under the Rillito River Bridge on Campbell Ave, right next to Trader Joe's. During the summer months, these bats emerge from under the bridge at sunset in a dazzling cloud of wings and small shrieks. Besides being a beautiful spectacle, these bats contribute so much to the local ecosystem, from keeping the insect population in check, to pollinating native plants and preserving biodiversity.
